GSG9 nomex fire retardant jacket and trousers, comes from the DBEN collection.
GSG9 was established by the then West German Government, after the mis-management of the 1972 Munich Olympics Tragedy. The unit was formed offically on April 17th, 1973. Part of Germany's Federal Police Agency, using police personnel at first rather then military personnel, as the then German law forbade military forces being used against its civilian population. The unit's formation was initally opposed by West German politicians as they feared it would re- kindle memories of the Nazi SS and Gestapo services during the Nazi regime of 1933-1945.
GSG9 stands for Grenzschutzgruppe 9 (Border Guard Group 9), simply because the then BGS had 8 border guard units at the time of its inception. The GSG9 was based on the expertise of the UK's SAS, and Israel's special ops. forces.
