Personnel Armour System Ground Troops (PASGT) started its development in April 1973, as a direct result of lessons learnt in South East Asia. This would be a direct replacement for the venerable M52/69 series of vests. The production run lasted from early Eighties (Grenada?) through to post 2010, were the vests continued to be used by USN personnel. The PASGT system almost defined the US troops serving in Iraq during Operation Enduring Freedom. A good, solid design of body armour.
Again, thanks to Martin Brayley's series of coffe table, quick read books.
